In an on-going effort to improve safety for workers and the traveling public on DTI Highway work, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is implementing a new Trucker Safety Program. Effective April 1, 2013, operators of private trucks will be required to complete the following basic safety training in order to haul materials on DTI Highways projects and contracts:
1. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Orientation - 1/2 Day session.
2. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Training - 1/2 Day session.
3. Work Area Traffic Control Manual (WATCM) Awareness Training- 30 Minutes.
( The WATCM Awareness session is offered as a part of this course, to save participants time from having to also take the online version).
Operators of private Trucks working on highway projects and contracts will be required to complete this 1 day Safety training program .
NOTE: Operators will be required to have the Trucker Safety Program completed, Driver's License for the type of truck they are operating and it will also be mandatory to perform daily Pre-Trip Inspections.
